April 2021 - Presidents Report
Following on from recent advocacy from your Chamber the Council of the City of Gold Coast announced a significant proposal for the Courts Precinct in Southport which will be a key driver of the Southport CBD.
Council has proposed a two tower Justice and Government Hub on Mal Burke carpark in Southport. Council provides the land which will preserve car parking and will relocate Council offices and only seeks the commitment of State and Federal Government to locate Federal Circuit Courts and the Supreme Court in the precinct and also commit to decentralised government departments occupying the towers which will be built by private enterprise.
As I noted in the Bulletin article this is exactly the sort of planning and investment Southport needs to properly activate and grow Southport as the CBD of the Gold Coast.
It is up to all businesses to let your Councillor’s and State and Federal members know that this is supported by the business community.
