CLEAN AND SAFE CBD - New Operation Actioned!
Residents and community members going about their daily lives have a right to feel safe. In response to community concern, Police have formulated an operation utilising current legislation to BAN REPEAT OFFENDERS FROM THE SOUTHPORT CBD.
This is in response to the community concerns for safety I have been consistently advocating for. Southport Officer in Charge Beau McNamara and Constable Matthew Bridge ran me through the action plan. The operation sets specific bail conditions to meet the needs of the community. It is an impressive approach to a difficult problem where offenders have consistently been let off remand by the courts.
I am privileged to work alongside these gentlemen serving our community. We will be hosting a community forum with the officers to bring you up to speed on this police approach and to answer any other questions you may have.
When: 5pm, Monday 13 March 2023
Where: Southport Community Centre, Lawson Street, Southport
Increasing the amount of criminal activity data points is the best way to alert state government that we need more police resources allocated to our area. This is not limited to violent crimes, and includes trespassing, theft, verbal threats, and anti-social behaviour.
You can report crimes on the Policelink website at: police.qld.gov.au/policelink-reporting.
Alternatively, ring Policelink on 131 444.
If you find yourself in a situation where crime is actively taking place, please ring 000.
