NEW TENANTS, NEW LOOK:
AUSTRALIA FAIR REDEVELOPMENT SET TO BUILD NEW FUTURE
Iconic Gold Coast shopping precinct, Australia Fair, has received development approval for an exciting revamp that will see the centre’s northern end redevelopment commence today, 27th July.
Elevating the centre’s offering as an everyday shopping centre for everyday needs, the $50 million upgrade heralds an immersive foodie experience, a 1,900 sqm Planet Fitness gymnasium, 600 sqm Asian Supermarket, a new rooftop bar and café, and a variety of exciting new retailers.
The centre’s exterior will also see a refresh with architectural updates to its main façade, as well as the façade and street frontage on the Nerang Street entrance.
Striking the perfect balance between design and function, centre accessibility and amenities has been at the forefront of the redevelopment. This will encompass a brand-new pedestrian entrance from Marine Parade with lift access, escalator upgrades, upgraded skylights, a new set of amenities on the Ground Floor near Woolworths, and a new stylish functional parents’ room. The introduction of an adult change facility will help assist the lives of people in the community with complex medical and disability issues.
With trading returned to pre-COVID volumes and a surge of tourists during the June/ July school holidays, Australia Fair Centre Manager Ramon Otten said the redevelopment will enhance the shopping experience and further propel trading for retailers.
“Trade is positive, and we have recently experienced one of the best months to date with our retailers and cinema, and Australia Fair’s redevelopment will only build the momentum of the centre as a must-visit precinct to shop, dine and play on the Gold Coast,” said Mr Otten.
“We know our centre is much loved for our extensive range of services such as the post office, justice of the peace, dentist, podiatrist and medical practitioners, and we are now going to expand our offering with more dining options, shopping and lifestyle experiences.”
The refurbishment will see an increased food offering including a vibrant food and beverage laneway, Broadwater Lane. The central Southport location will combine the very best of inner-city ambience and casual dining to offer everyone from foodies to families a taste of South-East Asia to your favourite carvery roast, with Malaysian favourite PappaRich.
Councillor Brooke Patterson said Australia Fair’s redevelopment will help boost the reputation of Southport and meet the evolving needs of locals and tourists.
“Australia Fair’s redevelopment is an exciting time for the local community as it will enhance the offering for generations to come,” Cr Patterson said.
Re-tenanting existing retailers and welcoming new tenants is all part of a considered retail leasing strategy focused on finding the right retailers for the centre’s customers, Mr Otten says.
“From seniors to tourists and CBD workers, our philosophy has always been centred around offering an accessible retail destination that has everything you need at your fingertips,” Mr Otten said.
“Long-time favourites including Bras N Things, Just Jeans, TerryWhite Chemmart and Williams Shoes and are here to stay, whilst we welcome exciting new brands to Australia Fair such as Planet Fitness, , Keep Fitness Pilates, 2 Brothers Barbers, Expresso Max, Hao Supermarket, PappaRich and Nene Chicken.”
Trading will continue as normal and the multi-stage redevelopment is anticipated to be complete by early 2023.
